Offering your customers fresh, engaging, and relevant content through a blog on your website is key. Here we discuss the tip for optimise ecommerce blog properly.
However, there are also SEO benefits to doing this when you optimise them properly!
We will be introducing you to five simple tips that can be applied to any kind of blog that is managed with some of the best blogging platforms, to help you maximise the potential and bring qualified traffic to your website.
1. Complete Keyword Research
The first thing you need to do to optimise your e-commerce blog properly for SEO is to complete keyword research. Using a keyword research and SEO rank tracker tool like Ahrefs, Soovle, Google Keyword Planner, you can search for terms that are either similar to a blog title idea you have in mind, or you could do general research on popular and trending industry topics.
Look for longer keywords in the form of questions, for example, a wall art company might look for keywords like “how to make your kitchen more homely” or “simple ways to fill up wall space”. From here, you can then create a full blog title and start the blog! Doing keyword research at the very beginning is key to making sure that your content is relevant to what people are searching for, as trying to add keywords into a blog that wasn’t purposely written can be difficult.
2. Achieve 2% Keyword Density
Now that you have a keyword selected, you should use it throughout the blog to indicate to Google that your blog is a good result if someone were to search for that term. Throughout the blog, you should mention the keyword in a natural way, as well as in headings. In total, you should aim for a keyword density of around 2%.
To work this out, you divide the number of times the keyword has been mentioned in the blog by the total word count. You then multiply this figure by 100 and that is your keyword density. A figure between 2% and 4% is ideal, as it indicates that the blog is well optimised without looking too obvious and impacting the user experience.
Using SEO plugins can help with analysing your blog content to optimize it further. Plugins like Yoast or All-in-One SEO will show you what you need to improve such as whether your target keyword is added in all the important sections such as title, meta title, headings, etc.
3. Link Internally
Next up, linking internally is important when it comes to optimising your blogs, as not only does it help users to navigate the website, it provides context and can help Google to understand and rank the website better. When you pair the internal link with a descriptive anchor text, such as “botanical wall art”, Google will see your website and understand which pages are important and also what they are about. Including an internal link for every 200 words is about right!
4. Aim for 700 Words
Whilst SEO benefits are a bonus to blogging, you should also focus on providing detailed and engaging content for your customers, so aiming for 700 words will help you to achieve that. 200- or 300-word blogs just look lazy in many circumstances, plus it will be near impossible to gain any level of detail with such a short word count.
When you aim for between 700 and 1000, you hit a sweet spot between offering detail without the customer getting bored! Generally, Google sees a higher word count as an indication of quality, so longer blogs can also help to get them ranking quicker.
5. Make Your Blog Easy To Read
One of the most off-putting things, when a user comes to read a blog, is if it isn’t formatted clearly, so the information is hard to access. Users like to have content in clear sections, so they can find the relevant information that they are looking for. Each section of a blog should be around 200 words long, to provide enough information about that subtopic without overwhelming the user with too much content. Make sure each title is descriptive and includes the keyword where possible! Creating reader-friendly blog posts is key to keeping visitors coming back for more and thus increasing web traffic to your blog.
Optimising a blog properly doesn’t take long at all once you grasp what a blog is and how it can support your website. But you can really reap the benefits in terms of search engine ranking positions and bringing qualified traffic to the website with the above-outlined tips and strategies!
